Matt B's Jordan Shoes Post

February 19, 2013

Jordan shoes have rounded out the basketball world. Around the nation the shoes have caused frenzies in malls and shoe store because they are so demanded in today’s market which helps the economy with everyone spending money on the very desirable shoes.  In an Atlanta suburban mall a mob of people broke down the doors to get to the shoes.  Shots were fired in California at a local shoe store. In 1990s when the high cost of the shoes combined with their popularity led to well-publicized violence, including a slaying of a Meade High School teen in Anne Arundel County that was the focal point of a Sports Illustrated cover story.

Main Evidence:

Saddam's uncle, an ardent Arab nationalist, introduced him to the world of politics. Iraq, a British colony from the end of World War I until 1932. In 1957, at age 20, Saddam joined the Baath Party. He started out as a low-ranking member of the Party responsible for leading his schoolmates in rioting. However, in 1959, he was chosen to be a member of an assassination squad. On October 7, 1959, Saddam and others attempted, but failed, to assassinate the prime minister. Wanted by the Iraqi government, Saddam was forced to flee. He lived in exile in Syria for three months and then moved to Egypt where he lived for three years. In 1963, the Baath Party successfully overthrew the government and took power which allowed Saddam to return to Iraq from exile. While home, he married his cousin, Sajida Tulfah. However, the Baath Party was overthrown after only nine months in power and Saddam was arrested in 1964 after another coup attempt. He spent 18 months in prison, where he was tortured, before he escaped in July 1966. During the next two years Saddam became an important leader within the Baath Party. In July 1968, when the Baath Party again gained power, Saddam was made vice-president. Over the next decade, Saddam became increasingly powerful. On July 16, 1979, the president of Iraq resigned and Saddam officially took the position.

Response:

Suddam Hussein spent 18 months in prison, where he was tortured and still managed to escape.  He is a very good leader because he has his history with politics. Saddam Hussein became an important leader within the Baath Party which helped him in becoming an infamous leader.  Over the years Suddam Hussein became very powerful with new people following him every day. On July 16, 1979 the president of Iraq resigned and Saddam officially took his position which made he even more powerful.

Good Source:

I think this website is a good source for information on Saddam Hussein because it gives information about his child hood life and how he got involved with politics. It also gives more information on how he was dictator of Iraq and information on his death.

Other Information:

-          Saddam means “He who confronts”

-          Saddam was born in a village called al-Auja, outside of Tikrit in northern Iraq.

-          Saddam didn’t start primary school until he moved in with his uncle at age 10. At age 18, Saddam graduated from primary school and applied to military school.

Matt B's MLK Speech Post 2 (12)

February 21, 2013

Martin Luther King junior was a man on a mission when he made the courageous speech “I Have A Dream” it changed the lives of blacks everywhere in the united states. In 1964 he won the Nobel Peace Prize for his famous speech in 1963 when he led the walk to Washington. But a sad day came when he was shot and killed on a balcony of the Lorraine Motel in Memphis, Tennessee on April 4 1968, only his dream didn’t die with him it stayed with the millions of blacks in America and it went on farther than he himself could even imagine. His dream did come true and he would be proud to see how far we have come.

Matt B's MLK Speech post (12)

Mrs. Stasko

February 25, 2013

All Martin Luther King could do was exactly what he did. He had a dream and in the end it came true to the point where they stopped most of the segregation because you’ll never get rid of it all with the type of people in the United States.  America has given the Negro people a bad check which has come back marked "insufficient funds." But we refuse to believe that the bank of justice is bankrupt. We refuse to believe that there are insufficient funds in the great vaults of opportunity of this nation.” The astounding words of MLK.
